Hello All,
I am a playa virgin so if any of my questions seem to mundane or out of context please bare with me. Let me give you a little bit of background before I ask my questions, hopefully they would make more sense:
I volunteer for non profit organization based out of south bay called Sunday friends ( sundayfriends.org). The program is privately funded and works with homeless kids and families of the bay. Since 1997, Sunday Friends has provided a safe place where homeless and very-low-income families come together with volunteers in a community setting. Through everyday activities such as cooking, serving meals, gardening, writing letters to donors, or making cards for nursing home residents, families practice positive life skills that promote self-reliance and a healthy, productive lifestyle.
The program was hosted Every Sunday up until recently . We could not raise sufficient funds hence the program has been cut back to once a month . So I want to take an art exhibit made by the kids of the program that will help raise awareness in the Burning community about the current situation of the program and how lack of funding is hindering our ability to help the kids and preventing us form fostering positive growth. so my question:
1) Can I represent my kids work at Burning man ?
2) From those who have been going to burning man, do you think that the community would be receptive ?
3) IS their an art theme we have to follow or we can have free form art exhibits ?
4) The board is a bit weary about the decadent aspect of burning man, Do any of you see any reason how it may impact the program negatively ? Any thoughts suggestions ?
5) As a camp would you be willing to support the idea ? Or better yet who should I be talking to ? Its my first time, I do not want to impose but I do not want to jeopardize my kids hard work by the virtue of over estimating my capabilities. So yes Help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: HELP!!!!! Questions for the burning community from the Playa virgin .. about creating an art exhibit
Thu, May 19, 2005 - 10:12 AMYou might want to go ask over at the Burning Man Virgins 2005 tribe. I'd say ask at burning man tribe, but they can be a little rough, sometimes. Both would be good places to start asking.
Someone's bound to have an opinion.
My opinion is that if it's your bliss to take this project to the playa, then take it. The worst thing that could happen is people ignore it and the art gets dusty.
If you're looking for donations, remember we don't have pocketbooks on the playa.
No moolah. -

Thu, May 19, 2005 - 10:31 PMthe art could blow away, too, depending on what it is... definitely something to consider.
