Hi Linda - Your best bet is to check the Playa Calendar on the Burning Man website before the event to see what looks interesting. This turns into a What Where When booklet given to you when you enter Black Rock City. Keep in mind that 'schedule' and 'plan' take on different interpretations on the playa. You may show up to find the 'event' isn't happening. But you'll still get to meet new peoiple so it's all good.

Greetings Drummers,

A quick intro to those that are new to the list, my name is Tabasco
and I have the honor of working with and orchestrating the drummers
who will be performing in the great circle at the man. A word to the
wise, I am not a drummer have never been a drummer and have very
limited ability to follow a beat, so asking me which drum you should
bring will be futile to say the least.

I also do not teach nor organize teaching. Please look locally.

This list is for announcements (meaning you cannot post to it). I
will pass on information about Burning Man that is relevant to you and
important if you're planning on participating in the Drummers
Collective. Please read the postings and when requested please follow
the instructions and respond with your interest. This helps me to
plan pre-playa and allows me less stress on the playa.

unsubscribe information at the bottom of this e-mail. If you know
others who are not on this list and might want to be please fwd this

There are two ways to participate as a drummer for the man. First
you can attach yourself to a fire troupe that is planning to perform
in the Great Circle. Each group will have its own standards and
requirements, and you will be required to follow their direction. This
is an opportunity to work with choreographed pieces and a planned beat
that will be worked out with that group. In this scenario you will be
under the guidance of the fire troupes shin (leader).

The second way to participate is in the ambience groups. This is
for drummers who are unaffiliated with specific fire troupe and
willing to be grouped with other drummers in the Great Circle. You
will then be placed in the inner circle in areas that lack drummers to
create music for fire troupes and the participants around the circle.

In order to be involved in the drummers collective as an Ambiance
drummer you will be required to sign in on the playa before the
required meeting/rehearsal that happens on Thursday of the burn. This
is where I collect the final list of names separate drummers into
groups and give you a chance practice and get familiar with the people
you will be drumming with. Then on Saturday you will pick up a
laminate which will get you into the great circle.

More details will come later, and I will start putting together a
list in late May or early June. Please be sure to read the
instructions and pay attention to the details.

*** Discount tickets***

If you were a drummer last year, you signed in, were at
rehearsal and the burn you will be able to purchase discount tickets.
If you did not sign in or failed to make it to rehearsal, please don't
bother asking. If you picked up a discount ticket and failed to make
sign in or make rehearsal you will not be able to get a discount
ticket from me ever again, don't ask.

First year drummers will need to pay for their tickets via regular
means. If you are in a fire troupe you will need to discuss this with
the shin of the group.

Please remember that if you want to be a drummer you will need to
check in before NOON Thursday of the burn. You will then need to be at
the rehearsal that eve. I will be there regardless of dust storms,
rain, and serious hang over. If you fail to show up or sign in you
will lose your spot to people that do show up. I have a limited # of
spaces and every year half of the drummers who sign via e-mail miss
this opportunity. If you are in the med tent during rehearsal bring a
note from them for an excuse otherwise there is no excuse. I want to
play too please respect my time, I will not hunt you down, I will not
say oh you just missed rehearsal sure I'll explain all to you now, ya
you can get in. Sorry to be so blunt, but every year there are 50
excuses. I have other responsibilities and again want to play to.
