WOW time to get my head out of the playa... eek I can believe it... this weekend is Xara, next weekend is Toast, then Flipside, pretty soon we will all be packing our bra and belt sets and desceding on the playa... YAY!
So how many of you on this tribe are thinking of doing something Burning Bellies related?
How many are new and have no idea what Burning Bellies does
How many interested in doing an invaision in Center Camp?
The man?
Forget both of those, lets take over the city?
Take over Greeters?
What do you think of date (Friday typically 5:30 or so, so we dont die in our costumes)
What have you liked about past years?

Due to a lot of different circumstances (some within my control, some beyond) I don't yet know if I will be making it to Burning Man this year.
The Burning Bellies group and the Friday invasion have always been one of the biggest highlights of the week for me and if I am on the playa this year I will definitely be there.
Regardless of whether or not I attend, I still plan on supporting the Burning Bellies project anyway I feasibly can.
YAY bellies!

Wed, April 27, 2005 - 11:52 AMI totally missed the invasion last year - didn't even hear about it! (so sad!) I'm up for doing an invasion this year!! This'll be my second burn (Oooh, big veteran!), but I'm really, really new to burning bellies.
I'm one of the leaders of Iron Rose camp (yeah, we're new this year!) and I wanted to use our Juke Joint space to host a hafla during Bman, probably the last half of the week to give bellies a place to be that's yahoo-free. (folks'd have to be with a belly or dressed as a belly to get in!) Maybe at night. Maybe late afternoon.
BUT, I've never hosted a hafla, much less one at bman, and I'm not an 'amazing' dancer for all that I have fun, so I'd want the hafla to be friendly to not-as-amazing dancers as well as the wow-ones, so... Maybe there's a more experienced dancer out there who could mentor/help/take on part?
any opinions out there? (or maybe I should start another topic for this!) -

A greeter invasion would be fun since I am a greeter as well. The greeters would enjoy the entertainment but it is a really long walk out there. Can't wait to see y'all out there! -

I tried to organize a glow bellydance invasion out to the greeters station last year but no one was interested. Want to RP (be a responsible party for the event)? I would really like to do something out there...

Thu, June 9, 2005 - 7:24 PMI've done the Invasion only once, in my 4 years on the Playa. It was great fun. The only thing is, that it conflicts with the Critical Tits Ride on Friday afternoon. Oh, to be able to be at 2 places at the same time.
I know Friday is the "traditional" day/time, but maybe there's a way to change it around. I know other Bellies would like to opportunity to do the Invasion, if not for the time, as well.

wish i would have known about y'all last year. last year was my first bm and i was just taking it in and then hiding at my humble abode at 6:30 and uranus. we had all the creepy voyeurs-that-don't-get-naked on our block! :P
anyhoo, haven't bought our tickets yet but are planning to go. definitely want to meet up, party with, dance with and invade with the burning bellies this year. playa, center camp, the man, the greeters, the whole city!!! ... that all sounds fun to me! please keep me posted!!!:)
i'm an amateur dancer. part of a new troupe out here in bfe high desert, central california. will probably eventually break into solo, perhaps with my lovely husband drumming. but i look forward greatly to bm 2005 knowing that there will be sisters in hip-scarves out there doin' it to it!

Your original idea of the Glow Invasion was nothing short of genius. Traffic is usually light then and the greeter's can feel a little lonely out there that time of day. Anyone interested in invading the greeter's station some evening? We are welcome multiple times as well. -

After much deliberation, I have decided to not go to Burning Man this year. As much as this crushes me it was the right decision. In the coming weeks I am moving into a new house, most likely starting a new job and will have no accrued vacation time and will be starting up at my seasonal costume shop job. This was all just too much logistically and financially for me to handle right now including Burning Man. I will miss you all for another year (didn't go last year either) but please get some shimmies on for me! :'(

IBTW, I love the late evening(5:30pm) time to invade CC. I view Burning Bellies as the thinking mans alternative to Critical Tits. If I could change or augment one thing? I would love MORE muscians and drummers. Last year at the man was a delight with the clarinetist and the drummers. MORE! -

I love love loved having live musicians instead of recorded music, however I have found it difficult to get them to commit, in 2003 my dear friend Tom was one of the only of a couple of musicians and he just about blew his poor lips off.. :) Live is always better in regards to recorded.
Speaking of Recorded make sure all of you pay attention to the next couple of announcements I am going to make in regards to the cafe performance and recorded music. -

I'm in a dance troup, Shakra,, dancers of the tribal grove, and both myself and my sister in dance, Bronwen, will both be at Burning Man.

Good to hear from you. I dont mind if you take pictures of the event. It was great to have all of those excellent pictures from last years event. The only thing I would ask is that if you are going to use specific pictures for publication you get the permission of the person/ people you are taking pictures of. The other request would be for you to post the link where we can see the pictures.
For those of you who dont know; Marie-Pierre is the person who took all of those great picutures from Last years invasion that are in the photos site of this tribe.
Yes we will be at Center Camp at 5 pm playa time and then when done will head out to to the man and then will be there until we are tired of dancing :D.

Mon, August 22, 2005 - 10:06 PMNo problem about permissions. I hope to have a web site up and going, but not before I leave. also this year I will have a didgital camera... Yes I stepped to the other side. Last year I scanned every one of the photos - thus the delay in posting. None of the photos taken last year were published or any of that. The goal is to eventually collect enough images to create a book showing the rythm of the palya through dance.... It is going to take a lot of shooting!
Ang, I can;t wait to be by your side on Friday for Critical tits and then the photo shoot! We wil have fun.

i've been part of the invasion of center camp for 3 years (is that right?) now, and i love it! Even though I'm not part of a troupe I love dancing in the female power energy that is generated. I love the surprise on everyone's faces. Its especially good when there are enough dancers to 'take over' briefly... that year with the white out was amazing. Could we get a message out to Andie Grace on the JRS perhaps? about how much we love dancers and we LOVE our drummers...and we'd love everyone to participate. (just don't say when the invasion would be)
I'd like to do it 5pm friday again this year...that's my 2 cents.

Anyway I adore the scene, know all the standards, tons of variations and have super-fast rolls. You can count me in on any belly dance activity on the playa this year if you'll have me. -

If other people are teaching/hosting lessons/parties, I'd love it if they posted an announcement in this tribe, so we'd all know about it.

One of the meeting places this year will be Terra Nova. We have not gotten placement just yet but I will let you know where we are when we have it.

I was just looking at some of the pix from last year - looks like beautiful costumes, plus some serious eye-protection, dust masks, and boots! How much dirt and wear will our beloved bra and belt sets be seeing?
Any other advice for a belly-dancing BM virgin (doesn't that sound awful!)? I'll be camping with BM regulars who will take care of me, but don't know anything about the dancing scene.... -

Tue, June 20, 2006 - 7:55 AMStacy -- your costume WILL get dusty. The general rule of thumb is, don't bring anything you couldn't bear to lose. That said, my metal belts survived the Playa just fine. The tassels on my corset belt (made of wig hair) did get pretty matted and nasty, though. I wouldn't necessarily suggest bringing your $800 Bella, but as long as you keep your costume safely tucked into a Ziploc bag until you're ready to wear it, and clean it when you get home, you should be okay.
Other advice: Make sure you get enough water, and if you get dizzy while you're shimmying, stop. Seriously.

Center Camp is a big tent like area that has pillows and cushions, is home to center camp cafe and a couple stages. The original event consisited of a blanket call for belly dancers, and musicians. When we got there people who didnt know each other (some did, but not a lot) started to play music and belly dance.... pretty soon all of center camp which is pretty big was filled with undulating bellies and musicians. It was unchoreographed and kind of un announced. Since Ivy and I have taken over the organization we have tried to keep it similar. Last year it was far more planned than other years. There were stage dances then we all danced afterward in center camp and then headed to the man where we danced for a while. This year we are going back to the more invasion like belly dance of center camp than the highly planned event such as last year. We will again dance in center camp, then head out to the man. I personally far prefer dancing at the man than in center camp. But other people really enjoy dancing in center camp so we try to compromise.

The cafe is fun too, but it's so hard to be organized and spontaneous at the same time... seems like last year some of us got separated because we didn't have a signal for "IT'S TIME TO LEAVE THE CAFE." plus nobody in the cafe realizes we are invading except the people who actually scheduled the place... just my two cents.
Whatever gets planned, I'm in. I'll be up the street from you Kat--Apocalypse Lounge is at 9:30 and Anxious--so we'll have to travel together! -
