Burning Bellies Annoucement 2007

I keep hearing rumors of invasions and having dreams about a large belly dance event on the playa. Some know it as Burning Bellies, some know it as the "Invasion". Some years is competes with critical tits and in my humble opinion there is no comparison. Maybe it is just that I am biased...


Plans will soon be announced..... I know you all thought I was going to make the announcement here and now didn't you?

      I finally found my fellow bellydancers! whee! and we are planning something big, and there's a hafla, wonderful!
      I'll be camping with Kostume Kult (I'm a virgin) so any of you dancers come by and say hello! I'm Morgan.

    What day and time did we have it last year? Wednesday right? at 2:15 pm?



























































































    The invasion is going to be Thursday 4:15 ish (or when the sun is four fingers from above the mountain). It will be at the man only this year. We will not be doing a center camp invasion. Just meeting at the man and dancing our hearts out. Of course all ages, skill levels, and sizes welcome! Drummers will be adored and we are accepting applications for water boys :)

      Cool! Machka Groove (Ciao Meow and me) are performing in center camp Thurs 2:40 - 3:00. Then we'll guzzle some water and stroll on out to the Man to shimmy with all y'all.

          That's a great idea Stacy! I'll post something like that. Machka G (and our guest dancer Connie) will encourage "invaders" to join us on stage (or near the stage) at the end of our set. Then we can head out to the Man.

            Please-don't-disturb-the-serenity-of-the-holy-Center-Camp invasion

            ....clearly the idea of being a fource to reckon with and taking the center camp as per past INVASIONS is not part of Burning Bellies anymore. Ahhhh the good old days of anarchy in a hip belt.

            ...that being said, like it or not, I'll be there.

              My choice to not go to center camp and dance had nothing to do with:
              Anti Invasion
              Invaison-less
              Political correctness
              or not disturbing the the serenity of the holy center camp invasion

              I had everything to do with:
              Dance being for the benefit of the dancers
              Not being a performance
              having fun with other sisters of the belly while not needing to be the center of attention that can happen and does often happen when performing in center camp.

              Unfortunately Thursday had other plans for us all. I had a great time not doing the invasion and getting stuck in a white out or several.. having one pass me then come back at me, partialy climbing the oil derrick in a 25 yard skirt... with HIGH winds and the derrick rocking back and forth. I managed to get just what I needed from the Playa at just the right time which was closure and Yes I FINALLY got what the playa was saying to me. It was being so blunt it wrote it down on a white post card with red lettering and put a stamp on it and sent it directly to me.

                    Not much of a story - woke up the day after the Burn, found that the diamond had fallen out of my engagement ring. I told my husband with great sadness and he basically shrugged and said there was no better place to lose it. Went on to say if he'd been a little wiser when he went to buy it ~15 years ago he would never have gotten a diamond - the blood taint, the fact that I prefer colored stones, etc. We basically have taken the Harold and Maude approach and now figure, "We'll always know where it is!"

                    But keep this in mind when you are considering gathering MOOP - that shiny thing might just be a tiny piece of plastic, or maybe....
