Compositions and beats The Toneman and I can perform in BRC2006.
www.hirschiphoto.com/bb/bb.html
As far as I know we will be able to play the electronics using the sound systems in the Hookadome and the Opulent Palace. More on that later.
We can play these compositions, or a mix of beats, the same everytime so do not fear us ruining your choreography. We are both working drummers that are disciplined in the genre. We can play the compositions/beats using dunbeks when no amplification is available.
All mp3's recorded 7/22/06 by Ra and The Toneman.

Sun, July 23, 2006 - 1:04 PMWow! That's awesome!
I don't think we ever had such dedicated drummers before, writing us songs and everything. Thanks for all your hard work! -

Re: Burning Bellies Compositions/beats
Mon, July 24, 2006 - 1:02 PMI'm starting to wonder if anyone is interested. I know it's a bit late for the dynamic routines but we can easily handle any mix - for instance: 16 measures of balladi followed by 8 measures of 2/4 into 6 shifti's etc.. It'd be cool to have some choreographed routines rather than just hafla freeform stuff.
Also I know from experiance that when we get surrounded by 100 drum-circle-style djimbe drummers it'll turn into Aftican rythms. Hardly any of them know middle eastern beats or have the discipline to follow them. I'm not knocking them. I'm just aware of the reality of the situation. -

???? - What did I do now? Did I say something I shouldn't have? I'm confused..
I'm sorry if I offended you, or anyone else, but I honestly can't be sure what you're talking about with that vague and dubious reply.
If you're talking about my statement about typical drum circle drummers in general not knowing the middle eastern beats that's simply a fact - do you disagree?
I KNOW I could ask 30 of them to play kashlamar and 28 of them wouldn't know what I'm talking about. That's not disrespect. It's just the way it is. Am I wrong? I have nothing against them.
I'm not trying to slam them. I even said so. If that's not what you are referring to then what did I say that prompted you to write this?
If you're talking about djembes. Well I like them too.. I think they rock.
Me and The Toneman drum in a professional capacity. In the last week or so we've been hired to drum middle eastern beats for a rotary club convention, 2 belly dance events and a ren faire.
Seriously - I'm just trying to help. We really do have skills that take years to hone.
I'm simply trying to help put together this project as promised. I'm not trying to step on anyones toes or anything like that.
I'm a veteran burner - I even have a photo in the new calendar - and, unfortunately, I'm an old man. I've been drumming professionally for longer than many of you have been alive - no kidding. Most of "those that have come before me" have died from old age. ;-|
I know and have had class with at least one world famous belly dance drummer and have performed, recorded and practiced for countless hours to contribute to the spirit of the drum and the dance. Most of it, especially in the first years, for no compensation other than the joy of drumming and performing with belly dancers.
I'm simply trying to lend my services towards making something fun, special and entertaining. I'm not a heavy. I'm not trying to ring my bell. I'm simply at your service. You can take it or leave it but I fail to understand what I've done to merit your reply.
Methinks perhaps you are being a bit too sensitive. I'm on your side. -

Wed, July 26, 2006 - 9:18 AMRa,
Relax dude, it's all good. Your offer and abilities are appreciated, I'm sure. I think the responses have come from your "I'm starting to wonder if anyone is interested" statement. Everything will gel playa side, where you'll have opportunities for structured and unstructured gigs. Thanks for participating!

Re: Burning Bellies Compositions/beats
Tue, July 25, 2006 - 12:12 AMWell, you're always welcome at Iron Rose. We've got basic beginner bellyclass on Mon and Weds, though playing for that might bore you to tears (the same rhythm for 10 minutes at a stretch!) There's a Middle Eastern jam scheduled for Weds at noon, I think it is. Yep, just checked. If you're interested, come! It's scheduled to run for only an hour, but that's just 'cause the Bedouin Oil Bath gig starts at one. Just stay & keep playing! We'll keep your drink full!
Burning Bellies Invasion would love you to little bits. That's Thursday at 4, Center Camp, also a jam (isn't it?) Lots of fun!!
Hookahdome would probably love you too. Talk to Summer and just ask. (she's in my 'friends', so just look her up and msg her.)
Frankly, I think a *lot* of folks would be delighted to have you play, I think we're just not sure of the specifics of what *you* would like to have happen! If you're solely looking for a top-notch dancer to rig something up with for a specific event, that might not happen (or it might, if you ask for that specifically.) Open to just playing for the joy of it, then you'll get a lot of that, and probably even someone moving to your beat. Probably lots of people.
Good luck and hope you'll stop by Iron Rose! -

Tue, July 25, 2006 - 9:35 PM>>Well, you're always welcome at Iron Rose.
Hi Heidi, hey that's fun to say... ;-)
We're down for all that and enjoy playing long repetitions. Thank you very much for the connections.
We're not looking for anything in particular. Just putting the word out in case anyone wants to schedule anything or even work-up a routine based on the mp3's or a mix of beats.
Basically just saying we're at your service and will be equiped with amazing electronix. Our band is actually a mix of middle eastern and industrial rock so we have a lot of fun toys. Since they will be programmed to trigger from one drum controller they'll be inside plastic bags to help keep playa dust off of them but we do need to be plugged into a sound ystem.
So...
It looks like most of the time we'll be playing accoustic drums but whenever possible the electronix are really awesome. The addition of all kinds of world drums, gongs, ambient sounds etc makes a lot of difference and I'm friendly in the mix with accoustic drums.
I've already been in contact with Summer and I think we'll be jacked into the big sound system for a performance.
The mp3's are to show what it'll sound like in case anyone wonders or wants to do a routine with us. They are the bare bones versions, not even many fills, in case musicians want to get in on it too(which I would love).. Our whole band isn't coming. Just me and The Toneman. We would just like to do something cool that isn't all impromptu but if that doesn't work out we'll just play it by ear and have fun. -
