i'm working on my costume for my first burning bellies! yay! but i just started making my yarn fringe belt and it suddenly occurred to me that some of the yarn i'm using might shed. i'm so sad now! boo! i bought this lovely fluffy hairy stuff with sparkles, which pulls off easily in my hands, so that's out, but what about the standard chunky wool collinette pt 5-style yarns?
i will be so sad if i must leave it at home! but i will, if need be. sigh.

Re: are yarn fringe belts too moopy?
Thu, August 11, 2005 - 9:12 AMAnything that's NOT eyelash-type yarn should be OK. There are some great ribbon yarns you could use. Sparkly yarns are OK IF they are made of a shiny fiber rather than pieces of metallic stuff here and there. Check the cut end of the yarn - if gentle pulling removes anything but small fiber hairs, it's probably not playa-perfect.

Tue, August 16, 2005 - 12:32 PMPoint 5 is great. Almost everything else I've used it not. With Point 5 you can also wet (lick) your figures and roll the ends so they won't unravel. -

Tue, August 16, 2005 - 4:04 PMwhen you guys are making stuff with point 5, do you boil the wool first?? I've heard of people doing this for yarn falls but not sure the purpose...does it keep the wool from unravelling? -
