there's Bahia's Tramp Camp in Texas in April, then in like May or June or July (?)
two in NOrthern California, one is called MIddle Eastern Dance Camp in Mendocino
the other is associated with Jill Parker but I can't remember the name
Dance camps ate an incredible value for the money, I highly recommend them!!!

Iron Rose has a hafla and a general bellydance theme (at least last year they did).

In the past few years there's been a bellydance invasion of Center Camp. This past year (my first) we got kicked out of Center Camp and danced in front of the Man instead. It was awesome!

I bought my tickets... I'm SO looking forward to this year!

      Kicked outta center camp?!!
      WTF?

      Gooooo Burning Bellies!
I knew you could do it!

This year are we gonna live out Ivy/Claires other fantasy and give out free lemonaid and chai in Center camp too?
If not, I wanna start planning this years invasion.
      Kat? Ivy?
Shall we attempt to be all "official" like and get us some pre-approved time like in 2005? Or did you all make that move last year and get skunked any how?

      Curious minds want to know!

I've got my ticket in hand for my 7th burn! I do hope we can get to planning a belly invasion for 2007! Anything I can do to help, count me in! I'm with Camp SCARAB (Society of Creative Artists and Radio At Burningman) and a deejay for Radio Electra on the playa. I'll be happy to promote it on radio as well.

        Burning regards,

Yes starting to plan this years invasion is a good idea to me. Every year when I try to organize this early I get little response. But I am glad to see people are interested early this year. Every year we have one issue or another with Center camp. If it is not timing, music, people with a holier than thou breaucratic attitude, or something. How about this year we dont do it in center camp? I am not a real big fan of center camp anyway.. its hot its crowded. Last year we attracted a ton of people out at the man. Thoughts? complaints? Ideas for something new and different are welcome. Maybe instead of Burning bellies we should do burning bhangra (my new favorite form of dance i am taking), or maybe burning bollywood :D although that would be WAY hot.. Lots of water would be required.

I know that there were some bellydancers who were there at Center Camp for the invasion but didn't get connected with the rest of group. We could dance around the man (Tribal Conga line anyone?)

          Rant on:

Personally, I like invading Center Camp™. I think the "important" acts need shaking up and what better way than a shitload of belly dancers barging in to break up the monotony of sexy carnival acts and lanky yoga postures? Seems our dancing draws in a lot of fun, joy and drummers desiring to participate. Heck, the videos thaken in '05 prove that alone!
....and who said we need to have anyones approval anyhow? After 5 years of this thing, you'd think we have a tiny piece of responsibility to the people who look forward to this element of guerilla dancing. We end up parading to the man in the end and the invasion of the center of Center Camp™, IMHO, is simply the staging place for moving out to the man.

I say stay the course, invade the santuary of CenterCamp™, piss off the powers that be and continue on to the man with all the authority as before. ....or would you prefer to continue to be nice, polite, quiet little girls seeking everyones approval???

          Rant off

I agree with Alexiis here-- "Invasion" implies exactly that. They may not want us, but we're coming anyway! So what if it's a clusterf**k? That's part of the fun of chaos and anarchy!

I agree with your rant. However a couple of thoughts.
Kat and Ivy may have to take some BS both before and after due to the invasion and I don't think they need or want that.

So. Suggestions if you continue doing center camp.

            A) pick a place on the inner circle, like The Tribe or Spikes and gather there at the set time.
            B) wait until you have everyone together and....attack.
            C) don't ask permission and don't let them know who is in charge.
            D) And if possible time it right so you are being polite to other performances.

PS. You people need to drink more water.....it's heavy. :)

Any and EVERY bellydancer is welcome to dance at the Iron Rose Hafla, Tuesday night on-playa!
We love beginners for their enthusiasm and charm. We love experienced bellies for their skill and creativity.
We give bellydancers drinks and appreciation!

And the ME musicians that show up?!!!
        Hot DAAAAAAaaaaaamn!
Every year it's different, and every year it's better than the last.
        Come dance with us, habibi!

        Oh, is it playa-time, yet?

Yup, yup. The Iron Rose made me feel VERY welcome my virgin year (2005) -- I'd only been dancing about a year and a half, and Heidi was very generous with praise and appreciation. As well as sangria. You don't have to be tribal, you don't have to be trained, you don't have to be anything except ready to show up and have a good time!

We'll be there again this year! And hubby has become quite a proficient drummer (and he's cute) so he'd be joining in on the fun as well.

          I can hardly wait!

You might be looking for Iron Rose.

Iron Rose is a registered themecamp (come to the playa EARLY! and leave LATE!) has several bellydance classes and throws a hafla on Tuesday night. ME music day is Tuesday, too (and whenever a dancer wrests the cd player from the clutches of another camper!)

We are not specifically and only bellydance, but it's one of the main joy-spots for us! Usually a good fourth of our campers are bellydancers. The non-ME-dancing campers are extremely supportive.
Iron Rose sometimes pulls together a troupe and soloist or two to dance in the bellydance show thursday night at Opulent Temple. (Is OT going this year, anybody know? Gina?)

For such a small group (30 people or less) Iron Rose has a few extra available spaces for campers this year, what with some Roses getting stricter jobs or kids starting school, etc. We've got pretty easy camper obligations and reportedly know where there is a private loo or two on playa. Roses get things done pre-playa so we can play ON-playa! But, we're kind of selective, in our own way. We like participants.

Any interested folk can ping me, the Iron Rose Whippencracker, for more info.

I will not be attending BM 2007. Time for me to move on to other things. But Kat is still planning on attending and I will continue to moderate this tribe.
